Paintball Manchester — W.A.R Paintball & Airsoft, Cheshire
The closest dedicated outdoor paintball arena to South Manchester — 30 acres of woodland, urban combat villages and trench warfare zones, 25 minutes from the city, open seven days a week.
W.A.R Paintball & Airsoft is located in Brereton Green, Sandbach — a 25-minute drive south of central Manchester via the M6 / A50, and the most accessible outdoor paintball venue for Manchester groups, stag and hen parties, corporate team-building events and birthday celebrations. We’ve been running paintball, low-impact Splatmaster and full-contact airsoft on the same Cheshire site since 2003, and we’re built specifically for groups of 8 to 80.

Why Manchester groups choose W.A.R over city-fringe venues
There are paintball pop-up sites scattered around Greater Manchester — but most are small farmer’s-field operations with two or three game zones, limited safety equipment, and weekend-only operating hours. Manchester groups who care about the actual experience travel south to Cheshire for three specific reasons:
1. Real game zones, not a single field
Our 30-acre site has seven dedicated combat zones, each themed and built for a different style of play:
- Vietnam Village — bamboo bunkers, mock dwellings and a downed Huey replica
- Speedball Arena — inflatable bunkers for fast, competitive matches
- The Trenches — WW1-style network of dug-in defensive lines
- Saving Private Ryan — Normandy-themed urban-combat zone
- Black Hawk Down — a downed helicopter centrepiece in an urban firefight setting
- The Pyramids — wooden-bunker open ground for objective games
- The Castle — fortified central structure with multiple approaches
You play all seven in a standard half-day session. Most city-fringe venues give you the same field for four hours.
2. Proper safety equipment included
Every player is issued a full-face thermal mask, neck guard, body armour and (on request) head wrap and gloves — all included in the base session price. Our marshals are paintball-experienced and rigorously chronograph every marker before play to keep velocity below the UKPSF 280 fps safety limit. We’re insured to the £5m public-liability standard expected by corporate bookers.
3. Drive, park, play — no fuss
The M6 J17 (Sandbach) is two minutes from our gates. Free on-site parking for 60+ vehicles. Manchester groups arriving by minibus or hired coach can be dropped at the entrance and collected three hours later. No urban venue can match that.
How long does it take to get here from Manchester?
| From | Route | Drive time |
|---|---|---|
| Manchester city centre | M60 → M56 → M6 J17 | ~35 min |
| Manchester Airport | A555 → A523 → A54 | ~35 min |
| Wythenshawe | M56 → M6 J17 | ~25 min |
| Stockport | A523 → A54 → A50 | ~30 min |
| Wilmslow | A34 → A50 | ~25 min |
| Altrincham | M56 → M6 J17 | ~30 min |
| Macclesfield | A537 → A54 | ~25 min |
If your group has eight or more people, a hired minibus from central Manchester is typically £80–£120 return, splits to under £15 a head, and means everyone arrives together and can relax afterward. Local operators we’ve used regularly include CCT Minibuses (Stockport) and Manchester Minibus Hire.
What’s included in a Manchester paintball day at W.A.R?
The standard W.A.R paintball package is a three-hour outdoor session including:
- All safety gear (mask, body armour, neck guard)
- Modern semi-automatic marker (paintball gun)
- A pre-game safety briefing and tactics walk-through
- 100 paintballs to start (top-ups available on-site)
- Marshal-led play across the seven game zones
- Access to our heated indoor base camp between games (toilets, picnic area, water)
- Free parking
Top-up paintball bags are available on the day from £8 for 100 rounds — average usage is 300-500 rounds per player across a half-day session. We accept cash and card on-site, and most groups pre-purchase a bulk top-up at a discount when booking.
Paintball packages for Manchester groups
We tailor the day to the group, but the most popular Manchester bookings fall into one of these formats:
Group Day (8-15 people)
Standard three-hour paintball session, all gear, 100 paintballs each, free use of base camp. From £25/head midweek, £35/head weekend.
Stag/Hen Party (12-25 people)
Same as Group Day plus the stag mankini run finale (optional, popular, ridiculous) and a customised target package for the stag/hen. Pizza catering bolt-on available. See Stag Do Paintball Manchester for the full package.
Corporate Day (10-50 people)
Full venue exclusivity available for groups of 30+. We can split the day into structured team-building scenarios in the morning and free-form play in the afternoon, or run it as a competitive league format. Hot lunch catering and meeting-room hire available. See Corporate Paintball Manchester for booking details.
Birthday Party (8-20 kids, ages 12+)
Full paintball with age-appropriate marshal supervision and reduced velocity setting. Birthday cake / catering bolt-on. Ages 7-11 should book our Splatmaster package instead — same site, lighter equipment, much smaller paint impact.
Mixed Activity Day
Combine paintball with airsoft in the same session — popular with experienced players who want to try both. Add Splatmaster for younger family members in the group.
When is W.A.R Paintball open?
Open seven days a week by pre-booked session. We do not run open public sessions — every booking is for a private group, so you only ever play with the people you arrived with.
- Saturday & Sunday: sessions at 09:30 and 13:30 (most popular)
- Weekdays: sessions at 10:00 and 13:00 by appointment (great for corporate days and school-holiday family bookings)
- Evenings: available May-September by arrangement (great for stag dos finishing with a meal in Manchester)
Last booking each day departs at 16:30 in winter, 17:30 in summer. We close on Christmas Day and Boxing Day only.

Frequently asked questions
How old do you need to be for paintball at W.A.R?
Standard paintball at W.A.R is for ages 12 and over. Ages 7-11 are welcome to play Splatmaster — our low-impact paintball variant using softer ammunition and lighter markers. Airsoft is for ages 16 and over.
Will paintball hurt? What about bruises?
Honest answer: yes, occasionally. A paintball hitting bare skin at 280 fps will sting like a hard finger-flick. We provide body armour, gloves and a neck guard that absorb almost all of it, but most adults will pick up one or two small bruises across a half-day session — usually on a forearm or thigh. If that’s not for you, Splatmaster uses ammunition with about a quarter of the impact and is genuinely fun without the bruising risk.
Do I need to bring anything?
Old clothes you don’t mind getting paint on — paint normally washes out but stubborn marks can stay. Sturdy footwear with ankle support (trainers are fine; walking boots better in winter). A bottle of water. A spare layer in winter. We provide everything else — mask, body armour, neck guard, marker, paint, marshal-led play.
What happens if it rains?
We play. The site is set up for British weather — most of the woodland zones are sheltered, and the heated indoor base camp gives you somewhere warm and dry between games. We only cancel for genuine safety reasons (high winds, lightning, snow); in 20+ years of operation that’s happened maybe a dozen times. If we cancel, your deposit transfers to a new date.
Is W.A.R Paintball insured?
Yes — we carry £5,000,000 public liability insurance, our marshals are paintball-experienced and first-aid trained, all markers are chronographed before every session, and we operate to the UK Paintball Sports Federation (UKPSF) standards. Insurance certificates and risk assessments are available to corporate bookers on request.
Can we bring our own paintballs?
No — for safety and equipment-warranty reasons we only allow paintballs we supply. Our paint is fresh, oil-based, biodegradable and matched to the velocity settings on our markers. Outside paint can shatter inside markers and cause injury or expensive damage.
