Why airsoft at W.A.R?
Most Greater Manchester airsoft players have to pick between two compromises:
- CQB indoor sites: fast, intense, but they’re small warehouses and the game style is repetitive after a couple of hours
- Pop-up outdoor fields: woodland but minimal cover, basic safety setup, weekend-only
W.A.R is the dedicated outdoor multi-zone site for Manchester airsoft players who want both: real woodland, real combat structures, real game variety, in a venue built to handle 8-50 players at a time with the safety infrastructure to back it up.
Our 30-acre site has the same seven combat zones built for paintball: Vietnam Village, Speedball, Trenches, Saving Private Ryan, Black Hawk Down, Pyramids and the Castle — all equally well suited to airsoft. The zones cycle every session so a half-day gives you 8-10 different game scenarios in different environments rather than the same field twice.
What’s airsoft (and how is it different from paintball)?
Airsoft uses 6mm biodegradable plastic BBs fired from spring, gas or electric replica firearms at low FPS (UK legal limit: 350 fps with .20g BBs for AEGs, lower for higher mass). Hits are honour-based — you call yourself out when hit, walk back to respawn, and rejoin.

If your group is new to combat sports, paintball is honestly the better intro because the paint makes hits obvious, the marker setup is standardised, and the age range is wider. Airsoft is what most regulars graduate to once they want a longer playing day, more realistic kit, and less laundry.
What’s included in an airsoft day at W.A.R?
The standard W.A.R airsoft session is a four-hour skirmish day:
- All safety gear: full-face mesh mask (or goggles), neck protection
- Rental rifle: Tokyo Marui–style spring or electric AEG depending on session
- One battery + charger access for the day
- One mid-cap mag + 1,000 BBs to start
- Pre-game safety brief and walk-around of the zones
- Marshal-led play across the seven zones with rotating game objectives
- Heated indoor base camp between games
Top-up BBs available on the day from £6 per 2,000. Most rental players go through 2,000-3,000 BBs in a half-day. Pay-and-play (bring your own kit) discount available (see pricing below).

Pay-and-play (your own kit)
For experienced players bringing their own kit. We chronograph everything at arrival and you join the session at a discounted rate. From £25/head midweek, £30/head weekend. Chrono limits: 350 fps AEG, 400 fps DMR, 500 fps sniper (with MED 30m).
Private hire (groups of 12+)
Block-book the site for your group only: no other players, customised game flow. POA; typically £30-45/head depending on day and group size.

Game styles and scenarios
A four-hour W.A.R airsoft session typically covers 8-12 different game scenarios. Our marshals mix it up so no two sessions feel the same:
- Attack & Defend: one team defends a fixed objective (Castle, Black Hawk down site, Pyramid)
- Capture the Flag: both teams attack
- Last Player Standing: battle-royale style elimination
- Presidential Escort: VIP and protection detail vs assassins
- Bomb Disposal: defuse the bomb in time, or stop them
- Search & Destroy: find and eliminate the enemy supply cache
- King of the Hill: control the central objective for X minutes
- Mil-sim Mini: extended objective-based round with mission briefing and squad structure
Marshals adjust pace and intensity to the group. A stag party gets a faster, more chaotic rotation; a regular skirmisher group gets longer, more tactical rounds.
Frequently asked questions
How old do you need to be?
16+ for airsoft at W.A.R. Under-18s must have a parent/guardian sign the consent form on arrival. For younger players, paintball (12+) or Splatmaster (7-11) are the alternatives: same site, same day if you have a mixed-age group.
Do I need a UKARA / defence to play?
No — you don’t need a UKARA registration to use our rental rifles. UKARA is a defence for purchasing a realistic-imitation firearm, not for renting and skirmishing one on a licensed site. We are a UKARA-registered site for players who want to gain their defence over the standard 3-game / 56-day period; talk to us at your first session.
Can I bring my own rifle?
Yes. Bring it bagged or cased. We will chronograph it on arrival. Limits: 350 fps AEG / SMG, 400 fps DMR, 500 fps sniper rifle with 30m minimum engagement distance. Anything over goes back in your car. We allow gas blowback pistols and shotguns under the same limits.
Will it hurt?
A 6mm BB at 350 fps on bare skin stings: comparable to a hard finger-flick. With normal clothing and a hoodie you’ll feel impact but it’s not painful. Most players don’t bruise. Eye protection is mandatory at all times in the playing area (non-negotiable).
What do I wear?
Long sleeves and long trousers (old clothes are fine). Sturdy footwear. A hoodie or jacket in cooler months. We strongly recommend gloves: a BB to a knuckle isn’t fun. Camo or dark colours help blend in but aren’t required.
What if it rains?
We play. Site is set up for British weather: woodland zones are sheltered, base camp is heated and dry, and most of the marshals would rather be out in the rain than sitting in. We only cancel for genuine safety reasons (high winds, lightning, snow); deposits transfer to a new date if we do.
Is W.A.R Paintball insured?
£5,000,000 public liability cover. Marshals first-aid trained. All sites operate to UKAPU and UKARA standards.
